Former Crawford County Man Charged with Possessing Child Pornography

A 68-year-old man from Crawford County, Pennsylvania, has been charged with possessing child pornography, according to a federal indictment.

Alan Thomas Rigby, a former resident of Crawford County, has been accused of possessing computer images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, as stated in the indictment.

The indictment was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

According to the indictment, Rigby could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, if convicted. The actual sentence would be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and Rigby’s prior criminal history, if any.

Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police.

An indictment is merely an accusation, and Rigby is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse across the country.
