Man Jailed for Resisting Federal Officer
A Fort Pierre man has been sentenced to serve time in jail for resisting a federal officer. Londelle Ashley, 31, was handed a four-month sentence by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on September 7, 2021.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on August 19, 2020, in the Big Bend community on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation. Bureau of Indian Affairs officers were called to a report of a person acting in a disorderly manner at a residence. When officers entered the home, Ashley rushed the officer and actively resisted arrest.
Londelle Ashley was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 1, 2020, and pleaded guilty on June 22, 2021. He was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $25.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley. The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
