Henry Underwood, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Indiana 2024

Fort Wayne – In a decisive move against gun violence in the city, Henry Underwood, 29, was sentenced to 102 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The sentence, handed down by United States District Court Judge Holly A. Brady, also includes three years of supervised release.

Underwood’s conviction came after a thorough investigation into a vandalism-by-gunfire incident in December 2019. During a traffic stop following the shooting, police recovered a loaded 9mm pistol with an extended magazine from his vehicle. Video evidence showed Underwood handling a similar firearm earlier that day, wearing the same clothes.

Underwood’s numerous prior felony convictions made him ineligible for possessing firearms or ammunition. The case was a joint effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Indiana State Police laboratory.

This sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across all levels of law enforcement. PSN focuses on fostering community trust, supporting local organizations to prevent violence, strategic enforcement, and measuring outcomes for safer neighborhoods.

United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson announced the sentence, praising the diligent work of Assistant United States Attorneys Stacey R. Speith and Anthony W. Geller in bringing Underwood to justice.
