GRIM NEWS: Fort Worth’s Ray Lee Ransom Sentenced to Over Four Years for Drug Trafficking

In a grim setback for drug traffickers, a 39-year-old Fort Worth man, Ray Lee Ransom, has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Ransom, who pleaded guilty on April 20, 2012, was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone, alprazolam, and promethazine with codeine. According to court documents, Ransom’s reign of drug dealing spanned from May 2009 through 2011, during which time he conspired with others to purchase and distribute these controlled substances.

The scheme involved purchasing the drugs at numerous pharmacies across the Eastern District of Texas using fraudulent prescriptions. On November 2, 2011, a federal grand jury indicted five individuals, including Ransom, for their roles in the conspiracy. All co-defendants have since been sentenced.

U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider handed down the sentence, marking the end of Ray Lee Ransom’s criminal career. The investigation leading to this conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby prosecuting the case.

This sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in drug trafficking and organized crime. Ransom’s case is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to crack down on such activities, ensuring public safety and putting violent criminals behind bars.
