Fosia Abdi Adan, Denaturalization, Minnesota 2023

Four Somalia-born individuals, including Fosia Abdi Adan, 51, face denaturalization after allegedly fraudulently obtaining their US citizenship through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

The US government filed civil complaints in the District of Minnesota against Fosia Abdi Adan, Ahmed Mohamed Warsame, Mustaf Abdi Adan, and Faysal Jama Mire, alleging they knowingly and fraudulently represented themselves as a family to gain admission to the US.

The complaints, filed on behalf of the US, claim that the individuals used fictitious identities and false information to obtain their visas and subsequently naturalized as US citizens.

According to the allegations, Fosia Abdi Adan applied for and received a diversity visa from the US Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, on January 10, 2001, and used it to obtain beneficiary visas for individuals who were ineligible.

Throughout the diversity visa application process, Adan allegedly fraudulently claimed to be married to Jama Solob Kayre, a fictitious identity used by Ahmed Mohamed Warsame.

The US Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, stated, ‘The current immigration system is easily abused by fraudsters and nefarious actors, and that’s certainly true of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.’ Sessions emphasized the need for a lawful system of immigration that prioritizes the safety and well-being of American citizens.

The four cases, United States v. Fosia Abdi Adan; United States v. Ahmed Mohamed Warsame; United States v. Mustaf Abdi Adan; and United States v. Faysal Jama Mire, were referred to the US government by the US Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The US government is seeking to denaturalize the four individuals, which would strip them of their US citizenship and potentially lead to deportation.
