Christopher L. McElroy, Conspiracy to Unlawfully Sell Firearms, Ohio 2024

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A violent underground network linking heroin and firearms has been cracked open with the federal indictment of four men from Franklin County, accused of fueling addiction and arming criminals across central Ohio. The 13-count indictment unsealed this week reveals a coordinated conspiracy to distribute heroin and traffic firearms without regard for law or human life.

The accused — Christopher L. McElroy, 19, Lamarco T. Brown, 18, Nathan G. Nixon, aka “Fat Boy,” 20, all of Columbus’s west side, and Robert A. Petty, 31, of Grove City — are charged with conspiracy to unlawfully sell firearms, a crime carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Three of them — McElroy, Brown, and Nixon — are also charged with conspiracy to distribute heroin, which carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years behind bars.

According to the indictment, the men engaged in repeated illegal acts, including the distribution of heroin, possession of the drug with intent to distribute, unlawful sale of firearms, and illegal possession of weapons. Investigators say the operation spanned months and involved multiple transactions that saturated neighborhoods with both deadly drugs and untraceable guns.

McElroy was taken into custody on February 12 and remains held by the U.S. Marshals. The other three defendants — Brown, Nixon, and Petty — remain at large, with law enforcement issuing active warrants for their arrest. Authorities warn the public not to approach the suspects, who may be armed and dangerous.

The case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Columbus Police, under the oversight of U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman for the Southern District of Ohio. Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs called the indictment a direct hit against a dual threat: “This crew wasn’t just selling drugs — they were arming the streets. We’re taking both the poison and the guns off the table.”

Assistant United States Attorney David J. Bosley is prosecuting the case. A federal grand jury returned the charges, but all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The investigation remains active as authorities work to dismantle the full scope of the trafficking ring.
