In a brazen act of violence, a Houston man, Francisco Javier Camacho, 42, was sentenced to 154 months in prison for robbing a Roanoke drug trafficker. This shocking crime took place on February 15, 2011, in Roanoke, Louisiana.
The crime was committed when Camacho and his accomplice, Cruz Martinez-Encinas, visited the home of a known drug trafficker, posing as potential buyers of marijuana. Instead of making a purchase, the two men robbed the victim, stealing three guns and $7,500 in cash. The victim was tied up along with a female present at the home, and the perpetrators fled the scene.
After a high-speed chase on Interstate 10, Camacho’s vehicle crashed, and he was apprehended along with Martinez-Encinas. Law enforcement found four semi-automatic pistols and $7,500 on Camacho when he was arrested. Martinez-Encinas had previously pleaded guilty on September 1, 2011, and was sentenced to 65 months in prison for possession of a stolen firearm and 65 months in prison for interference with commerce by robbery.
The case was investigated by the FBI, ATF, and the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Mickel prosecuted the case.
According to the evidence presented at the guilty plea on November 1, 2012, Camacho was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi to 70 months in prison for one count of interference with commerce by robbery and 84 months for one count of use and carrying of a firearm during a crime of violence, with the prison terms to be served consecutively. He is also to serve five years of supervised release.
The shocking details of this crime highlight the dangers of armed robbery and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat violent crime. The sentence handed down to Camacho serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of such crimes.
