Local Man Sentenced to 7.5 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

BOISE, ID – In a shocking turn of events, Francisco Martinez Campos, 57, of Caldwell, has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring operating near a school. Campos pleaded guilty to the charge on December 18, 2019, and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye.

According to court records, Campos was under the supervision of the Idaho Department of Correction at the time of the offense. Law enforcement officers seized a pound of methamphetamine from Campos down the street from a middle school, further highlighting the severity of the crime.

The case was investigated by the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force, a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local agencies. These agencies include the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Ada County Sheriff’s Office; Boise Police Department; Caldwell Police Department; Canyon County Sheriff’s Office; Meridian Police Department; Nampa Police Department; and Idaho Department of Correction, Bureau of Probation and Parole.

Prosecution of the case was handled by the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney hired by the Treasure Valley Partnership and the State of Idaho to address gang crimes. The Treasure Valley Partnership is a group of elected officials in southwest Idaho dedicated to regional coordination, cooperation, and collaboration on creating coherent regional growth.

Campos’ sentence includes eight years of supervised release following his prison term. The severity of the sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of methamphetamine trafficking in our community.
