Francisco Nuno-Urenda, a 41-year-old Los Angeles, California native, was handed a harsh 17-year prison sentence following his guilty plea to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This devastating verdict was delivered in the District Court of Oregon.
Nuno-Urenda was found guilty of being the head of a California-based drug trafficking operation that sourced its illicit goods from Mexico and shipped them across the United States. His network had ties to numerous other organizations, including a prominent network operating in the Portland metropolitan area.
A thorough investigation conducted by the FBI revealed that Nuno-Urenda maintained close ties with approximately 15 suppliers in Mexico, who were all connected to two or three major Mexican drug cartels.
As a result of this investigation, Nuno-Urenda was indicted alongside 15 other codefendants, most of whom were minor players in the operation. This case serves as a stark reminder of the perils of the illicit drug trade and the far-reaching consequences for those who engage in it.
Nuno-Urenda was also ordered to pay a hefty fine of $75,000 and will be required to undergo five years of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence.
