Justice Sought for Detainees in Florida Detention Center

Grimy Times has obtained exclusive details on a federal lawsuit filed by two environmental advocacy groups, Friends of the Everglades Inc. and Center for Biological Diversity, against the construction of a temporary immigration detention center in the Everglades, dubbed ‘Alligator Alcatraz.’

According to sources, the plaintiffs have accused the state of Florida of failing to conduct an adequate environmental analysis as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) prior to commencing construction. The lawsuit seeks to halt the construction and operation of the detention center.

In direct response, the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) has filed a motion in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, opposing the plaintiffs’ request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, ‘The Department of Justice has defended President Trump’s immigration agenda in court since day one and we are proud to protect ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ from baseless, politically motivated legal schemes.’

Acting Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of ENRD countered, ‘Delaying the construction of Florida’s temporary detention center, as plaintiffs request, would imperil critical immigration enforcement efforts and endanger detainees in overcrowded detention facilities.’
