Davenport Man Sentenced to 33 Months for Firearm Charge

In a bid to curb violent crime in Davenport, a 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for felon in possession of a firearm.

Gabriel Anjel Trujillo, a known and admitted member of the Lowrider street gang, was identified by law enforcement in January 2023 during routine surveillance. He was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police, and Trujillo fled on foot before a handgun was found in the vehicle.

At the time of his arrest, Trujillo was on state supervision for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. His sentence marks a significant blow to the Lowrider gang, which has been under intense scrutiny in recent years.

According to United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal, this case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone. PSN brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to tackle the root causes of crime.

Trujillo’s sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release after he completes his term of imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case against Trujillo highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat gang violence in Davenport. The Lowrider gang has been linked to several violent crimes in recent years, and authorities are working to dismantle its operations and bring its members to justice.

As part of the PSN initiative, law enforcement agencies are working to identify and prosecute the most violent offenders and partner with locally based prevention and reentry programs to reduce crime.
