Gabriel Gladman, Gun Trafficking to Minors, Tampa FL, 2023

TAMPA, FL – Gabriel Gladman, 23, of Akron, Ohio, is facing serious federal charges after allegedly running a scheme to purchase firearms illegally and funnel them to minors. An indictment unsealed today accuses Gladman of eight counts of providing false statements to federally licensed firearm dealers and six counts of illegally selling or transferring firearms to individuals under the age of 18.

Between November 22, 2022, and June 16, 2023, Gladman allegedly made eight separate trips to Tampa, Florida, where he purchased semi-automatic firearms. Each time, prosecutors say, he lied to gun dealers, claiming he was the true buyer when, in reality, he was acting on behalf of another party. The indictment details how Gladman then allegedly transferred these weapons to teenagers.

The firearms involved in the alleged scheme include a Smith & Wesson SD40 (.40 caliber semi-automatic), a Taurus G2 semi-automatic, a Glock 24 semi-automatic, a FMK 9C1 semi-automatic, two Taurus G3 semi-automatic firearms, and two Tara TM-9X semi-automatic firearms. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has signaled its intent to seize these weapons, claiming they represent proceeds from the alleged criminal activity.

If convicted on all counts, Gladman could face a lengthy prison sentence. Each false statement charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, while each count of selling a firearm to a juvenile carries a maximum of one year behind bars. The cumulative sentence could add up to a decade or more. Gladman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Tampa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Guzman is leading the prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Nebesky handling the firearm forfeiture proceedings. This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaborative law enforcement and community engagement.

PSN, according to the Department of Justice, emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting local organizations dedicated to violence prevention, focusing enforcement efforts strategically, and tracking results. The program’s renewed focus, launched in 2021, seeks to address the root causes of crime and create safer neighborhoods. The unsealing of this indictment is presented as a direct outcome of these efforts, though critics often question the effectiveness of solely enforcement-based strategies.
