A devastating act of arson shook a small community in White River, South Dakota, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. Gabriel Roubideaux, a 34-year-old man from the area, has been charged with setting fire to a residence and an outbuilding on March 16, 2021, in Mellette County.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, five years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The Indictment alleges that on March 16, 2021, in Mellette County, South Dakota, Roubideaux willfully and maliciously set fire to and burned a residence and an outbuilding.
Roubideaux was indicted on June 8, 2021, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 5, 2021, pleading not guilty to the Indictment. He is currently being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.
It’s essential to note that the charges against Roubideaux are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
