SAVANNAH, GA: A wild chase involving a gun and a high-speed illegal u-turn has culminated in a federal prison sentence for Elisha Gadson, 26, of Savannah. Gadson’s attempt to evade Port Wentworth police ended with a 46-month sentence for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The drama began when Gadson made an illegal U-turn and raced up to 100 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to court statements. Officers eventually apprehended him, finding a Glock 19 9mm with a fully loaded magazine under the driver’s seat and another loaded magazine in the trunk.
‘The joyride for this defendant is over, and his next stop will be federal prison,’ said Bobby L. Christine, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. ‘We commend the Port Wentworth Police Department for their diligence.’
Gadson’s prior felony convictions, including one involving violence, make him ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition. Assistant Special Agent in Charge Beau Kolodka emphasized the importance of the case, stating it demonstrates cooperation between local police and ATF.
The investigation was a joint effort by the Port Wentworth Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with prosecution carried out by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Bearden.
