Ethan Anderson, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Florida 2023

Ethan Anderson, 44, a resident of Gainesville, Florida, was handed down a 144-month federal prison sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence comes after Anderson admitted to discharging a firearm during a heated argument on February 28, 2023.

According to Jason R. Coody, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, ‘Our law enforcement partners played a crucial role in ensuring this habitual felon faces the severe consequences of his actions.’ The incident led to Anderson’s arrest and subsequent discovery of his DNA on a firearm found at the scene.

Kristin Rehler, FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge, emphasized the importance of their commitment to community safety: ‘This sentencing should send a clear message that gun violence will be pursued and punished with the full force of the law.’

In addition to his prison term, Anderson will serve 3 years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the Gainesville Police Department and the FBI, prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Harley W. Ferguson.

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence. They encourage the community to protect themselves by locking car doors to prevent burglary, a significant source of firearms in the area.
