Aaron Height, a 25-year-old armed career criminal, is behind bars for 25 years after shooting a man in the chest in a brutal act of violence. The shooting was part of a six-week crime spree that left a trail of destruction in its wake.
The crime spree, which spanned from October to December 2022, saw Height shoot into a home three times, hitting a resident in the head, and shoot into another home once. In the final incident, Height got into an argument with a man over a pair of shoes and struck the man in the head with a liquor bottle. He then poured Comet household cleaner into the victim’s head wound and ordered the victim and an eyewitness to their knees at gunpoint. Height then shot the victim in the chest and fled on foot.
The victim suffered life-threatening and permanent life-altering injuries but survived. Despite Height’s history of violence, he was given bond with a tether and house arrest multiple times by the state court system. However, he continued to violate his bond, leading to a federal prosecution that resulted in his conviction.
Height’s sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies, including the ATF and Detroit Police Department, who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.
