Mount Vernon Gang Members Face Federal Charges in Murders of Teen and Man
A dozen gang members in the Mount Vernon area have been arrested and charged with federal crimes, including the murder of a 13-year-old girl and a man. The arrests were announced in a press conference held today in White Plains at 11:00 a.m.
The victims, Shamoya McKenzie and Dean Daniels, were shot and killed in separate incidents. McKenzie was just 13 years old when she was murdered. The gang members are accused of being involved in a string of violent crimes in the area.
The press conference was held at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in White Plains, located at 300 Quarropas St. in White Plains, New York. The speakers included Joon H. Kim, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Michael Osborn, Assistant Special-Agent-In Charge of the New York Field Office of the FBI, and Anthony Scarpino Jr., Westchester County District Attorney.
The gang members were arrested on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. They are being held without bail pending their arraignment. The charges against them include murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy.
The investigation into the gang members was led by the FBI and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
