Garrith Bitsilly, Abusive Sexual Contact, New Mexico 2024

A 33-year-old man from the Navajo Nation has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison for his role in abusive sexual contact in Indian Country.

Garrith Bitsilly, of Newcomb, New Mexico, pleaded guilty to the offense on June 1. In his plea agreement, he admitted to committing the crime on the Navajo Reservation in San Juan County between February 1, 2014, and August 31, 2014.

According to prosecutors, Bitsilly caused sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 at a family member’s residence. The abuse occurred between February 1, 2014, and August 31, 2014.

The case was investigated by the Farmington office of the FBI, with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elisa C. Dimas is prosecuting the case.

Bitsilly will also be subject to nine years of supervised release, in addition to his prison sentence.

The sentencing took place on October 29 in federal court in Albuquerque.
