Hammond, IN – In a grim turn of justice, Michael Terrance Henderson, 43, from Gary, Indiana, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his brazen actions involving stolen firearms and a credible threat to kill.
Henderson was arraigned by Senior U.S. District Court Judge James T. Moody after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and possession of a stolen firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Kirsch. The sentence also includes 3 years of supervised release following his prison term.
The harrowing incident began on April 26, 2018, when police responded to a disturbance at a Gary residence where Henderson was alleged to have threatened another person with a gun. During the confrontation, Henderson was clad in a bullet-proof vest and brandished a semi-automatic pistol that had its serial number obliterated, along with an extended thirty-round magazine. He also had possession of another firearm he had stolen from someone inside the home.
Henderson’s criminal history is marked by six prior felony convictions, including three for robbery and additional counts for escape, intimidation, and theft. His latest conviction adds to a long list of transgressions against society that have made him a figure of concern in the Gary community.
The investigation into Henderson’s crimes was conducted by the ATF/HIDTA Task Force and the Gary, Indiana Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Nicholas J. Padilla and Thomas M. McGrath were responsible for prosecuting the case.
As Henderson’s sentence is handed down, it serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who trade in illegal arms and commit acts of violence against others. His case has left neighbors and law enforcement alike hopeful that such incidents can be deterred through relentless prosecution and harsh penalties.
