Stolen Firearms Case Rocks Cloverdale

Two Cloverdale men have been federally charged with possession of stolen firearms, following a string of burglaries at Guy’s Gun Locker in Cloverdale, Indiana.

Terry W. Morris II, 18, and Austin G. Greene, 19, were arrested last week and remain in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service. The men allegedly sold firearms to undercover agents, claiming they were stolen from the Cloverdale gun store.

On July 31, 2018, a burglary occurred at Guy’s Gun Locker, with over 35 firearms stolen. The ATF and Cloverdale Police Department quickly uncovered evidence that Morris and Greene were in possession of some of the stolen firearms and made covert firearm purchases from them.

“Possessing stolen firearms is a crime we take very seriously in this office,” said U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler. “Those who choose to illegally sell firearms, introducing them to the underground market and contributing to the violence in our communities should prepare to face federal prosecution.”

Law enforcement agencies, including the ATF and Cloverdale Police Department, have been working together to apprehend suspects and recover stolen firearms. “The citizens of Cloverdale and the Cloverdale Police Department are thankful for the outstanding support and teamwork provided by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Indiana State Police in the apprehension of these suspects in connection with the burglary at Guy’s Gun Locker,” said Cloverdale Town Marshal Steven L. Hibler.

Each defendant faces up to ten years’ imprisonment if convicted. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Pamela Domash. A criminal complaint is only a charge and not evidence of guilt, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is a significant part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Indiana’s, Strategic Plan to combat public safety challenges, including the illegal trafficking of firearms.
