BOSTON — Genaro Romero-Romos, a 34-year-old Guatemalan man, was sentenced to seven months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation.
Romero-Romos, a citizen of Guatemala, had been deported from the US on three prior occasions and served two prior sentences for immigration offenses.
In April 2024, Romero-Romos pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry, a charge brought against him by Assistant United States Attorney Brian Sullivan of the Major Crimes Unit.
Romero-Romos was arrested in November 2023 for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. It was during this arrest that Immigration and Customs Enforcement became aware of Romero-Romos’ unlawful presence in the United States.
The investigation was led by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
According to court records, Romero-Romos will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence, which consists of seven months in prison and one year of supervised release.
U.S. Senior District Judge William G. Young presided over the case and handed down the sentence, underscoring the consequences of violating immigration laws in the United States.
