ROCK ISLAND MAN SENTENCED TO 67 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR FELON IN POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION
A Rock Island man is behind bars after being sentenced to 67 months in federal prison for felon in possession of ammunition.
On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, George Harper, Jr., 34, was sentenced for his crime, which involved a shooting incident at the Kwik Star on 1650 West Kimberly Road in Davenport, Iowa.
According to public court documents, Harper was involved in the shooting incident at the Kwik Star on West Kimberly Road in Davenport, Iowa. During the incident, Harper fired multiple rounds from a firearm that he possessed unlawfully.
Before his possession of the ammunition, Harper had been convicted of felon in possession of a firearm in Scott County, Iowa.
Harper’s term of imprisonment will be followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement, stating that this case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together law enforcement and the community to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer.
As part of this program, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The PSN program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
