George Lyle Cullett, Jr. Charged with Attempted Murder, Pennsylvania 2026

A brutal attack at the United States Penitentiary at Canaan, Pennsylvania has left one inmate fighting for survival. George Lyle Cullett, Jr., a 55-year-old former California resident, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting another inmate with a dangerous weapon.

According to the indictment, Cullett conspired with another inmate to commit the attack using sharpened weapons commonly referred to as ‘shanks.’ The victim suffered numerous stab wounds and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Special Investigation Section at USP-Canaan. Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus has been assigned to prosecute the case.

Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.

The maximum penalty under the federal statute for this offense is thirty years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
