A Kearney man has been held accountable for his crimes after being found guilty of being an unlawful user of controlled substances while in possession of firearms.
Tyler Ray Tockey, 29, of Kearney, Nebraska, was sentenced to a 21-month term of imprisonment for the offense after pleading guilty on November 29, 2022.
Following his prison sentence, Tockey will be on supervised release for two years. There is no parole in the federal system.
The investigation into Tockey’s crimes was conducted by the Kearney Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aiming to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
On March 24, 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the Tockey residence in Kearney, discovering firearms, ammunition, marijuana, and methamphetamine. Tockey admitted to being a regular user of these controlled substances and stated that police would find firearms and drugs in his residence.
Tockey’s arrest and sentencing are significant milestones in the efforts to keep Kearney and surrounding communities safe from unlawful gun possession and substance abuse.
