Jefferey Edwards, Firearms Possession, Nebraska 2022

A 23-year-old Omaha man was sentenced to 48 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.

Acting United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Jefferey Edwards, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced today in federal court in Omaha for the crime.

Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down the sentence, which includes a 3-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison.

There is no parole in the federal system, according to federal law.

The investigation began on October 4, 2022, when an Omaha Police helicopter, Able One, observed the occupants of a Dodge Charger meet with the occupants of a white Mazda SUV in Omaha, Nebraska.

Officers stopped the Charger and later observed the Mazda traveling off-road along a tree line behind an address on North 26th Street in Omaha.

Police investigated the vacant lot behind the address and found an iPhone in a case lying in the grass, which led to further investigation and the discovery of multiple firearms.

The firearms were recovered from the vacant lot and a red Chevy Tahoe, which was unsecured and had an empty rifle case in the back seat.

DNA testing confirmed that Edwards was a contributor to the mixture of DNA on one of the rifles, a Century Arms, Inc. Model M70AB2 rifle.

The rifle, which is an AK-47 style assault weapon capable of accepting large capacity magazines, was ordered forfeited.

The case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
