Tohatchi Man Pleads Guilty to Violently Strangling Woman in New Mexico
A horrific crime has shaken the community in New Mexico as Victor Badonie, 33, pleaded guilty to violently strangling a woman during an argument. The incident occurred on March 5 and 6, 2024, at the victim’s home in Zuni, New Mexico.
According to court records, Badonie, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was with the unidentified victim at her home when an argument broke out. During this heated exchange, Badonie assaulted and strangled the victim, resulting in her hospitalization for serious bodily injuries.
The federal charges against Badonie include assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault by strangulation. He faces up to 20 years in prison and will be subject to up to three years of supervised release after his release from prison. Badonie must also make restitution to the victim for costs directly tied to his criminal conduct.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Zuni Pueblo Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Zach Jones is prosecuting the case.
