A 42-year-old man from Ponte Vedra Beach has pleaded guilty to distributing videos depicting young children being sexually abused over the internet.
According to court documents, George Thomas Griffiths, Jr. uploaded several videos featuring children, including an infant child, being sexually abused to a chat room on a social media application between February 3 and February 20, 2020.
Griffiths worked as an x-ray technologist at a health care facility in Jacksonville at the time of the incident.
He faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison, and a potential life term of supervised release.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
The case was investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations, with the assistance of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
This is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Griffiths’ iPhone was seized during a search warrant at his residence on November 19, 2020, and it contained at least 2,000 images and at least 10 videos depicting children being sexually abused.
