Macungie Man, George Woodfield, Faces Life in Prison for Child Exploitation Crimes

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light as a Lehigh County man, George ‘Travis’ Woodfield, has pleaded guilty to transporting a minor for sexual activity and accessing child pornography. The 41-year-old Macungie resident made his plea before United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson, Jr., on charges brought forth by the United States Attorney’s Office.

The charges against Woodfield stem from a 2018 incident in which he drove an 11-year-old child across state lines to New York City for an overnight trip. During the trip, the child was subjected to horrific sexual abuse in a hotel room. Additionally, between 2015 and 2024, Woodfield accessed numerous depictions of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including images of prepubescent children being sexually abused.

Woodfield was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 5, 2024. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 1 and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a maximum penalty of life in prison.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case was investigated by FBI Philadelphia’s Allentown Resident Agency and FBI Richmond with assistance from the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section’s High-Tech Investigations Unit. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca J. Kulik, CEOS Senior Trial Attorney Jennifer T. Leonardo, and CEOS Trial Attorney Jessica L. Urban.

Woodfield’s guilty plea serves as a stark reminder of the importance of this initiative and the need for continued vigilance in protecting our children from these heinous crimes. As the investigation and prosecution of these cases continue, we must also recognize the bravery and resilience of the victims who come forward to share their stories and bring their perpetrators to justice.
