Brandon Todd ODell, Methamphetamine Trafficking, NC 2024

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — In a scathing blow to the meth trade in North Carolina, Brandon Todd O’Dell, 34, of Hiawassee, Georgia, was today sentenced to a decade behind bars for trafficking methamphetamine. The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Dena J. King for the Western District of North Carolina, also includes five years of supervised release.

According to court documents and sentencing hearings, O’Dell conspired with others to peddle the deadly drug in Jackson County and beyond. On March 9, 2021, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies stumbled upon a welfare check gone awry when they discovered methamphetamine, digital scales, and repackaging materials in O’Dell’s car.

Further investigation revealed that O’Dell was a high-ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood in Georgia, responsible for numerous trips across state lines to transport large quantities of meth. On October 7, 2022, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney King expressed gratitude to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for their relentless pursuit of justice in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Tom Kent led the prosecution from Charlotte.

O’Dell is currently being held in federal custody and will be transferred to the Bureau of Prisons once a facility is designated.

This decisive sentence sends a strong message against meth trafficking, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to safeguard communities from this deadly scourge.
