Tyrone Brown, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Georgia 2023

BRIDGEPORT, CT – A Georgia man is facing a decade or more behind bars after admitting to running a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation into Connecticut. Tyrone Brown, 33, of Lithonia, Georgia, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, a charge carrying a mandatory minimum 10-year sentence and potentially life in prison.

The case, spearheaded by U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan for the District of Connecticut, details a two-year scheme spanning from January 2022 to March 2024. Brown allegedly mailed at least 79 suspicious parcels packed with methamphetamine pills from Georgia to addresses in New Haven connected to Gregory Grant and others. Investigators flagged the high volume of shipments, initiating a deeper look into Brown’s activity.

The break came in January 2023 when authorities intercepted and searched one of the parcels. Inside, they found a shocking cache: 16 ziplock sandwich bags containing over four kilograms of multicolored methamphetamine pills. A firearm was also recovered. The investigation further revealed a clear financial link between Brown and Grant, with Grant making multiple payments to Brown throughout the conspiracy, solidifying the trafficking connection.

Brown has been held in custody since his arrest on April 7, 2025, and now awaits sentencing scheduled for December 2 before U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill. This isn’t a standalone case; Gregory Grant, of New Haven, already pleaded guilty on March 12, 2025, and is also currently detained awaiting his own sentencing date. The network appears to have been well-established, with Grant acting as a key receiver for the incoming drugs.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force – a coalition of federal and local law enforcement including the U.S. Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General, and police departments from Hartford, Plainville, and Meriden – conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathaniel J. Gentile and Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis are prosecuting the case, aiming to dismantle this interstate drug pipeline and bring all involved parties to justice.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless flow of narcotics into New England and the dedication of federal agencies to intercepting these dangerous substances. The significant quantity of methamphetamine involved highlights the potential for widespread harm within the community. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as sentencing approaches and will provide updates on any further developments.
