Local Man Indicted in Fentanyl Trafficking Case

A federal grand jury in Kentucky has indicted Gill Dewayne Garrett, 29, of Versailles, for his alleged role in the distribution of fentanyl that resulted in a fatal overdose. The indictment comes as part of an ongoing effort to combat the growing opioid crisis in the region.

According to the indictment, Garrett is charged with two counts: illegal distribution of fentanyl resulting in a death and conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. A co-defendant, Allen P. White, 29, of Versailles, is also charged in the drug conspiracy.

The indictment alleges that on July 1, 2015, Garrett unlawfully distributed fentanyl to an individual who died as a result of using the drugs provided. The indictment also alleges that from June 2015 until August 2015, Garrett and White conspired to distribute fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine in Woodford County.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Bradbury on behalf of the federal government. The investigation was conducted by the Versailles Police Department and the DEA.

Garrett faces a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment. White faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. A date for Garrett to appear in court has not yet been set.

An indictment is an allegation only, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
