Glenmore Almando Carey, a 44-year-old Jamaican national, has been charged with illegally re-entering the United States, marking a serious breach of federal law.
According to the indictment, Carey was previously removed from the country by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on May 10, 2005.
However, Carey was found to be living in Pittsburgh on November 17, 2015, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
The indictment, which carries a single count, charges Carey with illegal re-entry after deportation, a serious offense that can result in severe penalties.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of twenty years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Removal Operation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation and does not necessarily imply guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
