Glens Falls Man Guilty of Distributing Child Porn, Violating Supervised Release
A 54-year-old Glens Falls man is behind bars after pleading guilty to distributing child pornography and violating the terms of his supervised release. Norbert Morgan, of Glens Falls, New York, was arrested on August 30, 2023, after a complaint was filed in federal court.
According to the plea agreement and documents filed in the case, Morgan is a registered sex offender in the State of New York, stemming from his 2006 convictions in the Northern District of New York for sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography. He admitted to using social networking applications to distribute numerous videos and images of child pornography between February and August 2023.
During a search of Morgan’s apartment, federal agents seized a tablet that contained over 600 images of child pornography. He is scheduled to be sentenced on the new offenses and his violation of supervised release before United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci on September 19, 2024.
Morgan faces at least 15 years and up to 40 years in prison on his guilty plea and an additional term of up to 2 years in prison on his violation of supervised release. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000 and a supervised release term of at least 5 years and up to life. Morgan may also be ordered to pay restitution to the victims of his offenses and forfeit the device used in the offenses.
Morgan was detained since his arrest date and is currently being held without bail. His guilty plea is a significant blow to those who seek to exploit children for their own twisted desires. The harsh penalties he faces are a testament to the gravity of his crimes.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child exploitation and rescue victims. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin S. Clark is prosecuting the case.
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the HSI Buffalo Field Office, made the announcement. As the nation grapples with the growing problem of child exploitation, cases like Morgan’s serve as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
