PORTLAND, Maine: Miguel Gomez-Sanchez, a 45-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to the heinous crime of illegal reentry into the United States after having been previously removed. Gomez-Sanchez’s transgression came to light on May 10, 2025, when he was apprehended by Maine State Police for operating under the influence on I-95.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents soon revealed that Gomez-Sanchez had a sordid history with the U.S., having been removed from the country multiple times. His most recent expulsion came in 2022, after he was convicted of the same offense for which he now stands before the court.
Prosecutors are seeking a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment and a fine that could reach $250,000 for Gomez-Sanchez. The final determination will be made following a thorough presentence investigative report compiled by the U.S. Probation Office, and in accordance with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant legal factors.
The investigation was spearheaded by ICE-ERO, which has been relentless in its efforts to combat illegal immigration and protect communities from criminal elements. This case is a part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at repelling the tide of illegal immigration, eradicating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguarding local neighborhoods.
