Girty Caught Red-Handed with Illegal Firearm
MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Kelly Don Girty Jr., age 30, of Gore, Oklahoma, has been caught with his hands dirty after pleading guilty to a federal firearm charge.
Girty, a convicted felon, was found in possession of a .22 caliber, bolt action rifle, which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce, on January 7, 2024. The charges against Girty stem from an investigation led by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced Girty’s guilty plea, which was accepted by the Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the United States in the case. Girty will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, following the completion of a presentence investigation report.
