TYLER, Texas — A harrowing tale of child exploitation has gripped Anderson County as a 45-year-old man from Grapeland faces an array of serious charges. Robbie Newby, the accused, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Apr. 17, 2013, for four counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of child pornography.
Newby’s alleged activities took place between January and March 2012. According to the indictment, he coerced or persuaded a minor into engaging in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such acts. The grim allegations paint a picture of exploitation right within our community.
This case is a critical component of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Under this initiative, federal, state, and local resources are pooled together to apprehend and prosecute those who exploit children online and identify victims for rescue.

If convicted, he faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison for each exploitation charge and an additional 10 years for the possession charge.
