Thomas Squires, Child Enticement Attempt, New York 2020

ALBANY, NEW YORK – In a chilling turn of events, 35-year-old Thomas Squires from Cairo, New York, has been apprehended and charged with attempting to entice a child. According to officials, Squires engaged in explicit text exchanges with an undercover FBI investigator, posing as a minor.

The complaint alleges that between July 27, 2020, and August 19, 2020, Squires requested nude photos from the fictitious child and sent photographs of his own genitals. He even plotted to meet this child in person for sexual encounters, planning to use his vehicle as a meeting place.

On August 19th, law enforcement officers were waiting for Squires at the predetermined location, leading to his immediate arrest upon arrival.

Squires appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian Hummel today and remains in custody ahead of a detention hearing scheduled for August 24.

The charge against Squires carries a severe penalty, ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment, with fines reaching up to $250,000 and a mandatory supervised release term of at least five years, potentially extending to life.

This investigation is part of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, collaborating with local law enforcement in Greene County. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Williams is handling the prosecution.
