Greenville, SC – In a stunning courtroom revelation, Jimmy Brown, Jr., 39, of Greenville, faced the music this week as he pleaded guilty to felony drug distribution and firearm possession charges. According to United States Attorney Beth Drake, Brown entered his guilty plea before Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks in United States District Court.
Brown’s charges include Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Drug Trafficking Crime. These serious offenses carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment for some counts.
The incident unfolded on September 3, 2015, when Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputies approached Brown at a commercial venue off White Horse Road. What followed was a physical altercation during which Brown lost possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Deputies also found 3.3 grams of crack cocaine and $1,767 in cash on him.
Brown’s previous criminal history includes a 15-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter. The maximum penalties for his current charges are daunting: up to 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for firearm possession; up to 20 years imprisonment and a $1 million fine for intent to distribute cocaine base; and life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for using a firearm during drug trafficking.
This case was jointly investigated by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Joe Brewer is handling the prosecution.
Judge Hendricks will impose sentence after reviewing the presentence report to be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
