North Carolina Man Charged for Assaulting Law Enforcement in DC
A North Carolina man, Gregory Charles Peck, Jr., has been arrested and charged with assaulting law enforcement officers and other charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.
According to the FBI, Peck, 51, of Connelly Springs, N.C., is charged with two felony offenses: assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, and civil disorder.
In addition to the felonies, Peck is charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in restricted grounds or buildings, disorderly and disruptive conduct in restricted grounds or buildings, engaging in physical violence in restricted grounds or buildings, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds, and engaging in physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings with a deadly or dangerous weapon.
FBI agents arrested Peck today in Connelly Springs, N.C. He made his initial court appearance in the Western District of North Carolina.
According to court documents, Peck entered the restricted Capitol grounds on January 6, 2021, via the West Front. While on the Southwest corner of the West Plaza, Peck used a flagpole with an attached yellow Gadsden Flag to hit a Metropolitan Police Department officer. The alleged assault was captured on a body-worn camera.
The investigation remains ongoing, with over 1,488 individuals charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including nearly 550 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony.
