Williamson Man Sentenced to 2.5 Years for Gun Crime

Lance Leonard Ward, a 25-year-old Williamson resident, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Ward pleaded guilty to the federal gun crime in September 2015 and was sentenced by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.

According to the investigation, on April 21, 2015, Ward possessed an Armscor Firestorm FSR .38 caliber revolver. However, Ward had previously been convicted in Mingo County Magistrate Court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence in 2011, making him prohibited from possessing any firearm under federal law.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Williamson Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime.

Lance Leonard Ward’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law and ignoring the rights of others. As a prohibited person, Ward knowingly and recklessly disregarded the federal law prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

As the Grimy Times continues to report on gun-related crimes, it is clear that this is a serious issue that requires attention and action. We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
