Gun runner James Strong and five alleged accomplices are facing federal charges after an extensive investigation into illegal firearms trafficking in New York City. The operation, which authorities claim occurred near a school, highlights the ongoing battle against gun violence.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Strong and his crew, including Karsem Allen, Carolyn Hicks-Torres, Henry McCummings, Rohnique Posey, and Dominic Smith, were charged in two separate indictments. They are accused of selling nearly 50 illegal firearms and machine gun conversion devices in broad daylight.
The suspects will appear before United States Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon today for arraignment. Strong was also ordered detained this morning following his arrest yesterday.
United States Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. emphasized the commitment to reducing gun violence, stating that his office and federal law enforcement partners are working tirelessly to disrupt illegal firearms flows in New York City.
ATF New York Special Agent in Charge Bryan Miller praised the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies involved in the investigation, highlighting the importance of every illegal gun taken off the streets as a potential life saved.
Strong’s criminal history includes a previous manslaughter conviction, which led to his 18-year prison sentence. He was released on parole in October 2023 and is now charged with being a felon in possession of firearms for selling the guns to undercover officers.
