A brazen pharmacy heist in Livingston, New Jersey, went sideways for Nariq Petes, 27, from Newark. On December 30, 2023, Petes and an accomplice, Xavier Reyes, walked into a pharmacy wearing black masks and packing heat. They brandished handguns, demanding prescription meds and making off with at least six bottles.
Three days later, law enforcement caught up with Petes at his apartment in Newark, where they found a stash of the stolen medication. In May 2025, Reyes pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and was sentenced to 111 months in prison.
Petes eventually faced the music, too, being found guilty of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and using a firearm during a crime of violence. U.S. District Judge William J. Martini handed down a 149-month sentence, with five years of supervised release.
The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI, ATF, Livingston Police Department, and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
