Arlin Alexis Bustillo, a 34-year-old native of Honduras, was caught by St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers in an abandoned St. Alexius Hospital on July 31, 2025, with a large machete and two firearms, including a stolen pistol and a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle. He also had a fraudulent Social Security card and permanent resident card. Bustillo pleaded guilty in April to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and possession of a false permanent resident card.
Bustillo’s arrest was the result of an investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. He was sentenced to 46 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative to combat violent crime and make communities safe. Bustillo will be deported after completing his sentence.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Phillip Voss and Ricardo Dixon. The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed by Bustillo and the need to protect the community from violent offenders.
