Caleeb Brown, 25, of Stamford, is headed for prison after pleading guilty today to a federal charge of possessing firearms as a convicted felon—a crime that stems from a high-stakes raid on his home more than a year ago. The plea, entered before U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven, seals Brown’s fate in a case that exposed a cache of weapons, drugs, and drug distribution tools.
On October 8, 2015, Stamford Police executed a search of Brown’s residence and pulled from the shadows a .22 caliber handgun, a 6.35 mm pistol, 14 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, and a stash of heroin. Also seized: paraphernalia used to package narcotics for street-level sale. The haul painted a clear picture—Brown wasn’t just using drugs. He was moving them.
Brown’s criminal past caught up with him fast. Before the 2015 raid, he had already racked up multiple felony convictions for possession with intent to distribute narcotics. That history is precisely what turned a state-level drug bust into a federal firearms case. Under U.S. law, any felon found with a firearm or ammunition that’s traveled in interstate or foreign commerce violates federal statute—no exceptions, no second chances.
Judge Arterton has set sentencing for April 26, 2017. Brown now faces a maximum of 10 years behind bars. With his record and the nature of the evidence—loaded weapons mixed with drugs—the prosecution will push for the upper end of that range. There will be no plea for leniency based on innocence.
Brown has been locked up since February 10, 2016—nearly a year already served as the case wound through the system. While he awaits final judgment, federal authorities stress that cases like this aren’t just about punishment—they’re about cutting off supply lines, dismantling networks, and stopping violence before it starts. A felon with guns is a recipe for bloodshed.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Stamford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito is prosecuting. For Brown, the clock is ticking—one last court date, one final reckoning.
