Habib Geagea Palacios Sentenced to 16 Years for Unlawful Opioid Distribution
A 40-year-old Miami man has been sentenced to 200 months in prison for his role in the unlawful distribution of opioids at a pain management clinic in Miami, Florida. Habib Geagea Palacios, owner of General Care Center Inc., pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and distributing a controlled substance on November 9, 2021.
According to court documents, Palacios paid doctors at General Care to prescribe opioids to nearly all patients who visited the clinic, resulting in the illegal distribution of over three million oxycodone pills and generating $9 million in cash. Seven doctors who worked at General Care have been charged in connection with their unlawful prescribing practices at the clinic, and six have pleaded guilty to date.
Palacios was sentenced to serve three years of supervised release in addition to the term of imprisonment. The investigation into the case was led by the HHS-OIG, FBI, DEA, and USSS.
Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr., U.S. Attorney Juan Antonio Gonzalez, and other officials announced the sentencing.
The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Alexander Thor Pogozelski of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin J. Larsen for the Southern District of Florida.
