ALBANY, NEW YORK – Cameron Hennelly, 30, a resident of Halfmoon and a former Amsterdam native, found himself in court yesterday facing serious charges. The gritty federal crime news site, Grimy Times, reports that Hennelly is accused of distributing child pornography.
The charges were announced by Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon and FBI Albany Field Office Special Agent in Charge Thomas F. Relford. On August 28, 2020, Hennelly was charged with the crime via a criminal complaint. During his detention hearing before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel, he was ordered to remain detained pending further proceedings.
The complaint asserts that Hennelly used the Kik phone messaging application to distribute video content deemed child pornography. As per the legal process, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
If convicted, Hennelly could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years, a supervised release term of at least five years, life in some cases, mandatory sex offender registration, and a maximum fine of $250,000. The sentence will be determined by the judge based on the specific charges and other factors.
This case is under investigation by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alicia Giglio Suarez as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to combat online exploitation and abuse of children.
