Lance L Bermudez, Murder-for-Hire, Hawaii 2022

HONOLULU – Lance L. Bermudez, 34, of Honolulu, faced federal Judge Derrick K. Watson yesterday, who sentenced him to a staggering 360 months for his involvement in the Miske Enterprise’s criminal activities.

Bermudez’s sentence is the final nail in the coffin for the enterprise, which included a string of violent crimes from murder-for-hire plots to armed robberies and drug trafficking. The acting U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson praised law enforcement agencies for their decade-long efforts that resulted in 20 convictions against Miske confederates.

Under his plea agreement in 2022, Bermudez admitted to a murder-for-hire plot with Michael J. Miske and others, plotting to kill an individual believed to be aiding law enforcement for $60,000. Bermudez also confessed to shooting victims from his vehicle during attempted murders and burning a van used in the abduction and murder of 21-year-old Johnathan Fraser.

“You terrorized this city and this county,” Judge Watson told Bermudez before announcing his sentence. “For his grisly work, he was known as ‘The Hammah,’” a moniker that reflects his violent methods.

The Miske Enterprise’s last remaining member to be sentenced, Bermudez’s conviction caps a decade of relentless pursuit by federal prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in Hawaii, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

“Our outstanding partners at the Honolulu Division of the FBI, IRS, and Homeland Security Investigations have tirelessly worked to protect our communities from violent criminal enterprises,” said Sorenson. “The sentence handed down today is a testament to our unwavering commitment to justice.”
