Tarik Jean-Jourdian, Identity Theft Scheme, Florida 2023

HALLANDALE, FL – Tarik Jean-Jourdian, 25, of Hallandale, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced yesterday to 36 months for a brazen identity theft scheme. U.S. District Court Senior Judge William J. Zloch also tacked on three years of supervised release following his incarceration.

The case, spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, revealed Jourdian systematically drained a PNC Bank account, pilfering $2,800 over a two-week period in April and May of 2015. Court records show Jourdian accessed the account at least six times, hitting various PNC ATMs with stolen credentials. The victim, whose identity was unlawfully used, confirmed they never authorized Jourdian to access their personal information.

Federal investigators didn’t stop at the ATM withdrawals. A February 8, 2016 search of Jourdian’s Hallandale residence and vehicle unearthed a disturbing trove of stolen data. Agents seized roughly 200 pieces of paper – handwritten and typed – containing the personal identifying information (PII) of numerous individuals. This included names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, painting a picture of a widespread operation targeting unsuspecting citizens.

Jean-Jourdian previously pled guilty to one count of use of one or more unauthorized access devices to obtain anything of value aggregating $1,000 or more, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1029(a)(2). He also admitted to one count of aggravated identity theft, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1028A(a)(1). These charges carry significant penalties, reflecting the severity of the financial and personal harm caused by identity theft.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg and Rafiq Ahmad, Special Agent in Charge of the Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General (DOL-OIG), jointly announced the sentencing. Greenberg specifically commended the DOL-OIG’s investigative work, highlighting the collaborative effort that brought Jourdian to justice. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua S. Rothstein and Breezye Telfair.
