CAPE GIRARDEAU – A disturbing case of child pornography has come to light in Southeast Missouri, with a Chinese foreign national being sentenced to prison time.
Haoyu Wang, a 29-year-old citizen of the People’s Republic of China, was attending Southeast Missouri State University on a student visa at the time of his arrest. Wang, a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was sentenced to serve seven years in federal prison for the offense of Possession of Child Pornography.
According to court documents, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Wang’s residence in January 2021 after developing probable cause that he was uploading videos containing child pornography. Investigators subsequently discovered a large volume of child pornography on the devices seized from Wang’s residence, including his cell phone and computer.
At his guilty plea hearing earlier this year, Wang admitted that he downloaded the material over the internet. After serving his sentence, Wang will be deported back to China.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Wang’s case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of child pornography. The production and distribution of such material is a grave offense that can cause irreparable harm to victims. This case highlights the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to combat this heinous crime.
Haoyu Wang, a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, will now face the consequences of his actions. His seven-year prison sentence is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting the nation’s children from predators.
