A 74-year-old man from Terlingua, Texas, has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for possession of child sexual abuse material.
Harold Lee McMullen, 74, was sentenced in a federal court in Alpine, Texas, to 87 months in prison for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). According to court documents, McMullen possessed more than 400 images depicting the sexual abuse of children.
McMullen was subjected to a search warrant after a Texas Department of Public Safety agent identified his computer’s IP address as exchanging CSAM over BitTorrent. He was arrested on August 15, 2023, and pleaded guilty on September 14, 2023.
“The sexual abuse of children is horrific and individuals like Mr. McMullen who further traffic such despicable material continue the harmful exploitation of these innocent children,” said U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas. “Along with our partners, we will continue to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Greenbaum prosecuted the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
